Auston Matthews has spoken out about the fact that Macklin Celebrini will be living with Joe Thornton in his first season for the San Jose Sharks.
The 18-year-old forward was selected by San Jose with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft.
Thornton, the No. 1 pick in the 1997 draft, played for the Sharks from late 2005 through 2020.
Matthews (No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft) and Thornton previously played together for Toronto. They quarantined together before a shortened 2020/21 season due to Covid.
“I’m a little jealous. Joe wakes up every day with a tremendous amount of energy. There’s never a bad day in his life. He’s always a lot of fun to be with.
I think he [Celebrini] is going to really enjoy it. He’s going to learn a lot. Jumbo is just great to support the young guys,” the Leafs captain said.
